How to use

  1. Write or paste an outline, or load the sample.
  2. Start with one "# " title line. Write each step as "- " followed by its text, indenting nested steps by exactly 2 spaces.
  3. Write "- Decision: " followed by a question to add a decision, then a "Yes:" line and a "No:" line beneath it, each followed by its own indented step or steps.
  4. Review the flowchart, outline and table, then download it as SVG or PNG if you want to.

Worked example

"# Order fulfilment" followed by "- Receive order", a nested "- Check stock", a "- Decision: Payment valid?" with a "Yes:" branch ("- Dispatch order") and a "No:" branch ("- Ask for another payment method"), then "- Close order" — both branches lead into "Close order" automatically, without writing anything extra.

About the views

Flowchart

A deterministic top-to-bottom diagram: steps run in sequence, a decision forks into its Yes and No branches (Yes on the left, No on the right), and both branches lead back into whatever step follows the decision in your outline.

Outline

Every step as one item in a single flat list, in the order it appears in your outline. Each step's text says which decision and branch it belongs to, so the structure is clear even without the visual layout.

Step table

One row per step, with columns for its kind, which step it comes after, its Yes/No branch (when it starts one), its indentation depth and its source line — useful for checking exactly how MeaningKit read your outline.

Limitations

  • Only the constrained outline syntax below is understood. Free prose, general Markdown formatting, and headings other than a single "# " title are not interpreted.
  • A decision needs exactly one "Yes:" branch and one "No:" branch, each with at least one step. Other branch labels are not supported.
  • The layout is generated for you. Nodes are not positioned by hand, and this is not a general diagram, Mermaid or BPMN editor.
  • Long step text may be shortened in the flowchart so it stays readable. The outline and step table always show the complete text, and a downloaded SVG keeps it too.
  • A ".md" file is read as plain text: MeaningKit interprets only the outline syntax below, not general Markdown formatting.
  • Characters that cannot appear directly in an SVG file are shown using visible Unicode escape notation, such as \u0000, in the flowchart and in downloaded images. The outline and step table always show the original text.

Privacy and accessibility

Privacy

Your outline and generated views stay on this device during normal use. MeaningKit does not intentionally send source content, filenames or image exports to its servers for processing. Downloading an image is your choice. Read the privacy page.

Accessibility

The flowchart is always paired with the outline and step table, so the process can be read and understood without seeing the diagram. Read the accessibility page.
